Fruit Tree Cuttings / Scion Wood / Seeds / Garden soil / Gardening books / Grafts – Exchange Event

Orange County Great Park Farm + Food Lab M7G5+59, Irvine

At the Irvine Great Park Farm Food Lab on February 11th 2022

Brought to you by your friends at the: South Orange County California Rare Fruit Growers

On Saturday, February 11th we will be having our annual Scion wood exchange event.

This will be organized differently than our prior scion wood / grafting events and different from any other Orange County Chapter in the past.

Please fill out the registration page - https://southoccrfg.org/events-register with the Scion wood / Cuttings you're planning to bring. Any cuttings/scions will need to be of a known variety for registration. Timely registration will help us prepare preprinted labels for each variety of cutting. Additional details for the types of cuttings we are looking for will be available on the registration page. Scion wood / cuttings can be dropped off at Frank's Lake Forest address prior to the day of the event or on the day of the event as early as 9am at the Farm Food Lab in Irvine.

Address of the event/Farm Food Lab is: 8000 Great Park Blvd, Irvine, CA 92618.

(Note- on the event location some members noted it can be difficult for find with mapping software since the park is so large. So... We drove from different directions to the location while recording a video of how to get there. . we will be posting them on our website soon to aid everyone.)

On the day of the event:

10:00 AM - We will be making scion wood available to members of the South OC chapter
10:30 AM - Other chapters and the public who have brought items to the exchange will be able to get cuttings, soil and other stuff.
11:00 AM - Scion wood will be open to the general public.
12:00 PM - We will have a brief tutorial on how to graft avocado seedlings.

After that, we will have participants graft cuttings onto avocado seedlings that we will be supplying. There will be mentor grafters going around to answer questions and to critique the grafting methods. Our goal is to increase hands-on knowledge by members of grafting period. Prior to the event we will also release a video describing possible issues to expect when grafting, this way more people are prepared ahead of time and make better use of the instructions. If you or someone you know is good at grafting or even another different method of propagating plants and want to speak or answer questions at the event, let us know. Grafting mentors get 3 to 5 Gallons of worm castings.

We expect a large turnout at the event. We are asking members to make available scion wood / cuttings of known varieties (NO citrus cuttings due to the citrus Quarantine in response to a disease that kills citrus trees). We will be releasing more information as the time approaches to people who have registered, we recommend you put it on your calendar. It will be a great time to meet other members. We hope to see you if you can make it!

Event is open to the public. Registration is preferred.
